Another great humanitarian, gone.....

At 6AM this morning I was woken, abruptly, by the phone. It was my dear friend in Australia, Nicole. She wanted to give me the news before I saw it on the telly or the computer.
She said, "Take a moment to wake up" and I said in my groggy state, "ok." She then said, "Have you seen the news yet?" and I answered, "Umm no" then she apologised for it being so early and said "I am so terribly sorry, I knew how much you loved him" and then I knew, without further words, exactly what she was telling me.
Steve Irwin was gone.
Of course, still 1/2 asleep and not wanting it to be REAL, It didn't sink in right away. I wanted it to be a dream. I sat there for a few seconds, waiting to wake up but sadly, I was already awake and Steve really IS gone.

On the news they said he died doing what he loved, filming and teaching about wildlife. As much as I KNOW that's true, it doesn't make his death any more easily accepted for me. I have followed his career and life for almost 15 years now and it's just so sad that he's gone. His was such a dedicated family man. His daughter, Bindi Sue is only 8 years old and his son Bob isn't even 3 yet. I feel for his family and friends as I know this will be a very difficult time in their lives. I will miss his exuberance and passion as will the rest of the world.

How incredibly sad and tragic. You only just IMed me with the news and I'm still in shock. I have the news on now and will most likely keep it on all day while I work. It's like a bad dream. Steve: You will be missed. Thank you for all you have done to raise the world's awareness of wildlife and the importance of conserving their natural habitats. Thank you for your fun, joy and passion in your work.

He was gettting the public ready I guess :) He was Wild We loved him too. His Dog sewie was always on our mind as she was so close to the Crocodiles as well....I had not known he was dead till I came to this site, what a shitty way to start a morning.... Wow,,

I was so sad to hear about this too! My kids have always loved his shows, although my DH and I always said (kinda jokingly), "he's gonna get himself killed doing that!" He was really adventerous and you could tell he loved animals with all his heart! Just very sad! May he rest in peace!
BTW--I love the new look of your blog. Looks great!

I was stunned when Paula gave me the news this morning as I was on my way to go scrap with her, although I am a big fan, I wasn't always an avid watcher. It definitely brought my morning down a few levels...I too am in complete disbelief that this happened, it's just not fair, life is just not always fair and the biggest part to me, is that he leaves behind little children that NEED their daddy...

May he find a good place in the Heaven's above.

Yes, our family had a hard time with this too this morning. Horrible news.

The blessing in all of it, and one I know Terry will keep close to heer heart, is that he was doing what he loved and it will remain part of his legacy to the world, not just his children. Nature is not just to love but to be revered, respected and protected.

God bless his family, not just his blood family but the family of all people throughout the world who are feeling this horrible loss.

I know what you mean...his show was big in my house, the kids love him and we feel like we know the whole family ya know..it is something how things happen the way they do. He is fortanate that he loved what he did down to his very soul and so he and his family were and are very blessed people. Our prayers are with them for sure.
Australia and every nature lover out there lost a great ambassador.

Very tragic and untimely demise. But one thing you have to say about him - he really packed a lot of living into a short time! I like the new look of your blog.
